Your Role and Responsibilities
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) professionals are engineers who specialize in reliability and resiliency with the right mix of knowledge and skills in software and systems, responsible to analyze business needs, problem determination, advise & design, build, test, deploy, changes and maintenance of a well-engineered information system and ecosystems.
Duties of SRE:
Build, deploy, and manage solutions for company-wide infrastructure challenges.
Ensure high availability for underlying platforms and infrastructure for application use.
Provide engineering teams with tooling and guidance to monitor their service availability against pre-determined SLOs.
Implement monitoring and alerting in our production environments.
Identify, evaluate, and recommend opportunities for automation.
Collaborate with other software engineers around patterns and practices for highly available, fault tolerant, and resilient applications.
As a compute Operations Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll perform the following tasks:
Monitor provisioning tests and investigate/resolve any failures.
Perform code stack updates on infrastructure systems (VIOS, firmware, PowerVC, HMC, Novalink, NIM servers) as well as cloud supporting systems (jump servers, sobox, network nodes, gateways).
Upload/maintain stock images.
Maintain User IDs(Add/delete) and passwords.
Perform periodic LPMs, inactive migrations, or remote restarts of customer VMs to perform system maintenance, balance workloads, or free up resources.
Monitor and provide details of Capacity utilized in each Data enter.
Attend scheduled meetings planned by customer for cutover/maintenance windows.
Verify capacity requirements in case of provisioning failure issues by customers.
Work with customers to resolve any RSCT issues so that LPM activities can be performed without impacting customer workloads.
As a network Operations Site Reliability Engineer, you perform the following tasks:
Raising support cases with network vendors to troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software issues.
Maintain and firmware upgrades on Cisco ASR/ACI/Leaf switches and Juniper as per security compliance.
Investigate and resolve port down/flap/bandwidth issues over ACI/ASR infrastructure, NNI links, and other parts of the network.
Day to day follow-up’s on incidents and collaborating with other SREs squads if needed.
Guide customer to create a DirectLink Connections, dedicated links, and configure Megaport VXC Connectivity from Cloud to the client environment.
Configure, Troubleshoot and Resolve Colo inter connectivity using GRE over NNI link and from Cloud environment to other cloud and infrastructure.
Configure and troubleshoot PUB-VLAN expansion, ACI/VSRX, and VPC expansion on ACI.
Enable VPNaaS connectivity from Power Cloud to Customer servers.
Attending scheduled meetings planned by customer for cut-over/maintenance windows.
Coordinating with Architects, leads and Cloud support teams on new custom.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
3 – 11 years of relevant industry experience.
Good knowledge of Power server HW (Models, I/O Adapters etc).
Good knowledge of Power VM, HMC, Power VC including installation/configuration and operating.
Good knowledge and hands on experience configuring and troubleshooting network technologies including: Overall Cisco HW and SW, VLANs, Cisco ACI, Cisco IOS-XR, Cisco IOS-XE, Cisco ASRs, GRE, BGP, DirectLink, IPSEC VPN with Vyatta and vSRX, VPNaaS.
Proven level Linux Skills with a strong background in troubleshooting.
2+ years overall experience in Operations, Production, Development, or Engineering experience.
Cloud experience; IaaS and PaaS for on-prem and/or public clouds (IBM, AWS, or Azure).
Fast learner of technology and willing to experiment to find the best solutions.
Monitoring & Event Management of complex systems.
Specific skills in one of the technical SRE Squads:
Compute (Power Servers)
Storage (FlashSystem 9000 products)
Network (Enterprise class Cisco and SAN)
Operations Lead (Cloud & Technology expertise)
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Expert Level Linux Skills with a strong background in troubleshooting.
Power HA administration.
Cisco certifications.
2-3 years of Cloud experience; IaaS and PaaS for on-prem and/or public clouds (IBM, AWS, or Azure)
5+ years overall experience in Operations, Production, Development, or Engineering experience.
