Functional Description:
Within the Global Risk & Compliance organization, the Market Risk Oversight Group is the independent risk management team covering all financial risks undertaken by the Treasury function at American Express. The team’s core responsibility is to design and execute risk measurement and controls across balance sheet management areas, including funding and liquidity risk, market risk, and capital management. The role will assume the responsibility of overseeing key areas in market risk (including investments), Capital management and deposits funding, leveraging analytical frameworks for independent risk assessment and providing effective challenge to the processes.
This candidate will report to Senior Manager, Market Risk Oversight, and will be responsible for developing and monitoring risk metrics, conducting in-depth reviews of Capital management, Investments & FX risk processes, undertake and expand deposit portfolio analytics, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, managing relationships with first line partners, assisting in regulatory interactions, and enhancing the firm’s market risk management program as American Express’s balance sheet grows.
Responsibilities
Perform independent review and oversight of Capital Management, including Loss Given Stress (LGS) & remaining risk tolerance (RRT), Investments and FX risk related processes, including but not limited to methodologies and assumptions
Conduct ongoing monitoring and analysis of Loss Given Stress (LGS) including tracking of metrics and refresh of limits and thresholds on expected credit risk losses under stressed conditions.
Analyze trends in the deposit and checking portfolios and conduct deep dive analysis to understand key drivers
Produce risk dashboards for AXP Risk Committees including tracking risk appetite metrics across above risk pillars.
Conduct gap assessment and compare industry best practices to strengthen risk controls and meet heightened regulatory standards
Assist in preparing briefings for risk management committees/ senior leadership forums & contribute to regulatory engagements and examinations
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in Credit and Financial risk management highly preferred
Graduate degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, is required;
Strong verbal and written communications required
Ability to effectively deliver complex messages to senior leaders and stakeholders across three lines of defense
Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective
Experience with data-driven analytical tools (e.g. SQL,HIVE/HADOOP, Python);
Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks
